Condition assessment or structural health monitoring is a growing area of infrastructure engineering in which the response of the structures under particular loading or environmental condition is estimated. Health monitoring is also used as a diagnostic tool for detecting or inferring the presence of defects and for scheduling maintenance operations. This workshop aims to establish international exchanges between Japanese and Brazilian on this theme. In Japan, structural health monitoring is a diagnostic tool frequently used and developed. Nowadays Brazil is facing many challenges in order to improve its transportation infrastructure to set the grounds for a continuous development and economic growth. A future cooperation between Japanese and Brazilian researchers is very important and will contribute with mutual development.
